Whether it’s the year 1100 AD, your power went out or you are just trying to get in the mood candles are not out of style. By the looks of it neither will they be anytime soon.
So now that we understand candles dominant supremacy to civilizations past and present I want to pose this question; Why do you think candles are placed on a cake for someone’s birthday?

Candles are more than just light or a scent, instead they symbolize an intention. This goal could vary from person to person but one underlying message is apparent no matter what the purpose. Thought. For most people today our schedules rarely allow us to stop and give consideration to what makes us happy. Whether it is reading a great book, having dinner with a loved one, family or friends, relaxing in the bath tub, yoga, or maybe writing a blog when we do these things it is important to put thought into what we are doing instead of what may need to get done tomorrow. Candles are perfect in these situations because they can remind us to stop and put attention into the things that we are doing and make us happy.

While you eat your next meal light a candle and put it at the table. Enjoy the time spent eating and worry only about the satisfaction you get from that meal.

Would you like a cheeseburger, perhaps a milkshake, or maybe some wings? This food sounds all too familiar these days and Rodman’s is here to put an end to the banal American food problem. You might be asking yourself, “but what’s wrong with American food?”

Aside from the obvious calories, sodium levels and high contents of monounsaturated fats American food is just so…American. Don’t get me wrong when it comes to being a patriot. I am 100% allegiant to the good old US of A, but when it comes to food I fully understand we are not winning that race.

What does sound like a winning recipe? A true Spanish paella y Sanchis Mira for desert, a German stollen, South African peppadew chicken with a side of Biltong*, Indian vegetable curry or a Japanese Soba tofu soup . You don’t have to spend your life saving traveling around the world to experience amazing food, instead just pick up a cook book or look on something called the world wide web.

Washington DC is an amazing mixing pot of culture and diversity, restaurants and shops, it is time you experience what the world has to offer by digestion. Let your mouth be the canvas, your kitchen be the brush and create a picture perfect meal that will open your eyes to what the world (and Rodman*s ) has to offer. Free your appetite from the suffering that the displeasing stereotyped American food has caused you for all these years and rejoice for other countries may not have nuclear weapons but they sure do make a darm good chickpea curry.

*Unfamiliar with some of these items? Step into Rodman*s and ask any of our friendly managers to explain what it is. You don’t know what you’re missing.

It is all about craft beer these days and trust me we are hopping on the wagon. It seems that even in times of economic struggle people can still find the money to spend on great beer like a 4 pack of Palo Santo Dogfish head for $16.99 or a single 750ml bottle of Chimay Trappist ale from Belgium for $12.99. Has everyone gone nuts over this intoxicating fad or is it really worth the money?

Washingtonians have become so accustomed to price gauging in the beer markets, especially in public places like bars, restaurants and sporting events spending upwards of $9 a beer for bud or miller light that buying a few drinks can rack up a tab bigger than a night in Vegas. Splurging $12 on a 6 pack of craft beer in a store begins to seem like a sound investment.

More people are hesitant to go out to dine when cooking meals at home is usually around half the cost with twice as much food and the drinks, well com’on, don’t even get us started on the money you could save consuming drinks in the comfort of your own home. Aside from a monetary standpoint drinking American craft beer is unequivocally patriotic. The Germans had their run with beer and Belgium too; It is now America’s time to shine!

Growth of the craft brewing industry in 2010 was 11% by volume and 12% by dollars compared to growth in 2009 of 7.2% by volume and 10.3% by dollars. There are now 1,927 craft breweries operating in America compared to 1983 when just 51 brewing concerns are operating 80 breweries, the top six breweries included – Anheuser-Busch, Miller, Heileman, Stroh, Coors, and Pabst – controlled 92 percent of U. S. beer production. So what does it all mean? Jobs! Americans its time to grab your mugs and drink our way out of this economic downturn. So hop on the hoppy wagon with us and try a 6 pack of Starrhill this weekend and revel in your devotion to saving America one beer at a time, we owe it to ourselves and most of all our country.
